Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
